DescriptionThe MEL-14 antibody reacts with CD62L (L-selectin), a 76 kDa receptor with lectin-like and Epidermal Growth Factor-like domains. CD62L is expressed on most thymocytes, peripheral B and T lymphocytes, neutrophils, monocytes, and eosinophils and binds a number of glycosylated, fucosylated, sulfated sialylated glycoproteins including CD34, glycam-1 and MAdCam-1. These interactions mediate rolling of lymphocytes on activated endothelium at the sites of inflammation, homing of cells to the high endothelial venules (HEV) of peripheral lymphoid tissues and to contribute to neutrophil emigration at inflammatory sites. The level of CD62L expression distinguishes naïve, effector and memory T cells. This antibody is routinely tested by flow cytometric analysis to ensure the product quality.

BackgroundThis gene encodes a cell surface adhesion molecule that belongs to a family of adhesion/homing receptors. The encoded protein contains a C-type lectin-like domain, a calcium-binding epidermal growth factor-like domain, and two short complement-like repeats. The gene product is required for binding and subsequent rolling of leucocytes on endothelial cells, facilitating their migration into secondary lymphoid organs and inflammation sites. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms in this gene have been associated with various diseases including immunoglobulin A nephropathy. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene.
